In the past few years I’ve noticed a lot more patterns in unique shapes. Sure, most fall into the traditional shapes we’ve always seen in crochet, but there are several new shapes coming about. I’ve searched around and found some of those unique patterns to share with you this evening.

Here are the names and links of each pattern, along with a little something that each designer has to say about them.

Cast Off Chemo

Cast Off Chemo & CD Giveaway

Hello my friends! I love sharing patterns with you, reviewing products, chatting about things here At Home, and all things yarning. However, I really, really, really love sharing ways we can all make the world a little happier, a little healthier, a little friendlier, a little better. That’s what I have to share with you today.

Cast-Off Chemo! is a charitable program established by yarn industry professionals with the purpose of raising a $1 million ($1,000,000) dollars to fund research that will end the need for chemotherapy in breast cancer treatment and, ultimately, cure potentially all cancers. The funds will support the research work of Dr. David Krag and his team and network of researchers across the US, whose work to date has already benefitted over a million women and men world-wide. The monies raised will enable him and his team to bring this research to the clinical trials, at which point federal funding would become available.” ~ Cast Off Chemo mission statement

Studio Update

Hello my friends! The never~ending renovation to my basement studio is moving along. Here is a little reminder of where this all started.

The yarn storage wall is still in limbo. I hope to finish it up this week. I had to take a break from it because I REALLY needed to get back down here and start getting my “stuff” cleaned and put away. The Unicorn Fibre products are doing a spectacular job getting the yarn and finished items cleaned up, however, I had to take a break from cleaning until I had a place to put everything! I seem to have issues doing things in the right order…

Here are some photos of some of the progress on the main part of my studio.

Starting-to-look-like-a-room

We put up some paneling to cover the furring strips and cheap insulation. The walls will still need to be finished properly one day, but at least they look better now. The ceiling just has fabric stapled up, but it’s a million times better than the joists with the miles of wires and pipes everywhere. We sealed and painted the floor, then tossed some inexpensive carpet down. I have more to go along in front of my yarn storage wall, and to line the stairs. I wanted gray, but they were out. I’m really glad they were, because I love this blue and I think the room really needed the color.

I bought a slipcover for the loveseat (which has been vacuumed a couple times since the soot incident) but

Textured Waves Scarf

This spectacular scarf has a similar look to short rows, without using short rows! Instead, stitches of different heights are used to make the growing and shrinking rows. Three color ways of Lion Brand Textures are used in this scarf, though you could also use 3 skeins of the same colorway and get a more muted, yet still very nifty, effect. So, grab your Lion Brand yarn and hook and get ready for the colder weather.

Slow and Steady

I promised you all pictures of my work room after it was covered in soot, and of the renovations. So here are some.

I-was-organizing-this

This was my couch, post soot. I had just moved a bunch of stuff onto it to sort through. Notice the paper at the bottom right corner of the picture, the black bag is on it. That paper was white and clean before this all happened.
