Too Cool for School Round Up

The kiddos are back in school and suddenly we realize we weren’t as prepared as we thought we were! They “need” a pencil case that’s cooler. They want to give the new teacher a gift. The other kids have all these fun things that they don’t have!!

OK, sometimes they have to deal with a little disappointment in life, but sometimes we can up the cool factor with a few fun creations. So, here are some patterns that will allow the kiddos to bring the cool to school!

ELK Studio Round Up

This week I am very pleased to share patterns from ELK Studio ~ handcrafted crochet designs with you. ELK Studio is owned and run by Kathy Lashley, a very talented and wonderful woman. Kathy is a southern girl in the best of ways! Her designs often show her country roots, making them feel very warm and comforting. She uses wonderful stitch patterns to bring interest to her designs. It’s no surprise that her designs are very popular.

Kathy is currently hosting a Christmas CAL, and it’s awesome! You can find the info about the CAL on her blog, here. You can also join her Facebook group to share your photos and chat with others about the CAL. There are 2 patterns in the CAL, a cowl and matching hat, and both patterns are written for worsted weight and bulky yarn, so you can choose!

How to make a bag out of 3 Granny Squares

I seem to have a surplus of Granny Squares hanging about my work room. I’m not really sure where they all come from. So, I have started turning them into bags of various sizes and styles. They make great gifts! Especially the little ones turned into little bags for kiddos.

How to make a bag out of granny squares

I was recently asked to review a book of Granny Squares, so I thought I would take the opportunity to show you one method I use to turn some Grannies into bags.

Farmers Market Hexagon Bag AKA The Grand Old Flag Bag

The town farmers market is finally open for the season! I LOVE going to the farmers market, and I love using re~usable bags. For years I have been using the tote bags you can buy at the grocers, but this year I am making a market bag! This market bag has a hexagon base, a mesh side, and a long shoulder strap on top! I have chosen the super simple chain and slip st mesh for the side because it works so well for market bags, and I like the look. On our first outing to the market with the bag this morning, my daughter Vada dubbed it the “Grand Old Flag Bag.”

There are so many things I should be doing today. I think I will make a new pattern instead.
