Pretty in Pink Clutch – what a cute little accessory!

The Pretty in Pink Clutch is perfect for a night out, or to hold make up or jewelry. Clutches are such a classic accessory. This one is great for gifting or taking to holiday parties. I made mine in pink and purple, but you can choose any color to go with your style! Make one to match each of your favorite dresses or outfits.

Pretty in Pink Supplies

Size:
5” x 7.5”

Yarn:
Caron Simply Soft: (100 % Acrylic), Size 4 (8 wpi DK weight), 170 g / 315 yds
Neon Pink: Color A – 1 skein, (40 g / 75 yds)
Iris: Color B – 1 skein, (10 g / 20 yds)

The sample was made in Red Heart Fashion Soft in Bright Pink and Lavender for I Like Crochet Magazine. Since then that yarn has been discontinued, so I now suggest the Caron Simply Soft.

Hook:
US – G/6, 4.0 mm

Gauge: Learn about gauge HERE
26 sts x 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Linen Stitch

Other supplies:
yarn needle
8” zipper in coordinating color
dark pink sewing thread
sewing needle

Stitches and Abbreviations: click on highlighted sts for tutorials
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
  • Round/Row counts are at the end of each row after the period, if the count has changed from the previous round. – {count here}
  • Chs and sl sts are not included in Round/Row counts unless specified.
  • A sewn lining can be added to this clutch if desired.
  • This pattern is made with a sc row at the bottom, and then a linen st round work across the top of the single crochet and then across the bottom of the sc.
  • Start pattern with Color A, make Rnds 17, 20-22, and 25 with Color B, make all other Rnds with Color A.

Pretty in Pink Pattern:

Ch 48.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch. – {47 sc}

Begin working in rounds by working across top of Row 1, then across the bottom of Row 1, making Row 1 the bottom of the clutch.

Rnd 1: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, skip 1, [sc in next st, ch 1, skip 1, sc in next st] 22 times, sc in last st, ch 1, rotate work, begin working in starting ch at bottom of Row 1, sc in first st, ch 1, skip 1, [sc in next st, ch 1, skip 1, sc in next st] 22 times, sc in last st, ch 1, sl st to top of first sc, sl st into ch-1 sp. – {48 sc}

Rnds 2-27: Ch 1 (does not count as a st) sc in same ch-1 sp, ch 1, (sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) around, sl st to top of first sc, sl st into ch-1 sp.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Handle

Ch 60, turn, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch.

Cut yarn. Fold handle in half and sew one end to first st of Rnd 27 and one end to last st of Rnd 27.

Finishing

Pin zipper into top opening of clutch, using sewing thread and needle to hand sew zipper to last round of clutch.

Tassel

  • Cut 10 pieces of each color yarn, 10” long, lay in a bundle.
  • Cut a 12” piece of Color A and tie it around the center of the bundle of yarn.
  • Fold bundle in half.
  • Cut a 24” piece of Color A and wrap it around the top of the bundle, about ½” from fold. Secure tightly.
  • Use ends of 12” piece to tie tassel to zipper pull.
  • Clip tassel to desired length
