Doug’s Birthday and Janice’s Quilt

Saturday was Doug’s birthday. Unfortunately I awoke in the middle of the night rather sick, so I ended up missing most of the day. We had planned to go to a Medieval event on Long Island that afternoon; I told him to take the girls and go without me. Being a good husband and father, he took many pictures.

The event had a tavern theme, which, in this group at least, did not mean drink yourself silly. It was set up with tavern games of old ~ and some of new ~ tavern food, and of course…

So much to do ~ So much to make.

So much to do! I made a list of everything I want to have done by the end of Doug’s Spring Break ~ which is the first week of April. I have a lot to do.

But first things first ~ this is what happens when I leave the girls home alone with Daddy…

That would be a chocolate covered peanut butter bar in her hand.

Still here.

Yes, I’m still here.

Craft Hope Red Scarves

The Craft Hope red scarves should have found their way to the Orphan Foundation of America by now. It was a lot of fun making them.

This one was made by starting with a flat circle in red. I then squared it out with the white, and finished with red again. It was a bunch of squares put together with the join-as-you-go method. The boarder is just two rows of single crochet. Here is a close up.

And a fun stretchy shot of the whole scarf.

Blanket Fort!!!!

Peek-a-Boo-Hexie

This weekend the girls and I had a lot of fun making and playing in a blanket fort.

I even got them both to pose for me. Here is Kyla making a “cheese” face.

At the request of Kyla.

You can tell it’s Kyla by the hair over one eye.

Well, this was an interesting weekend full of good and bad.

Good ~

Getting ready for the big round guy.

In an attempt to save some money, and satisfy my creative side, I have lots of homemade happenings for that day a week before the New Year; the day of the Big Round Guy. For now it is mostly jar gifts. This was my table a few weeks ago making 72 cups of banana bread mix.

Of course I didn’t have all the jars yet, so then I had to stash all that mix, and all the ingredients I had for other mixes, somewhere. Yeah for those new bookshelves!

The Little Things

I feel the need to celebrate the *good* little things in life right now. Sometimes the *not so good* little things pile up and become overwhelming. When I look at the world through the eyes of my 2 1/2 year old girls, it is a beautiful and happy place. So here are a few of their little things, and a few of mine.

The girls love to play with pillows and cushions. Look at the immense amount of fun they are having with the cushion from the top of the toy box. Sorry about the funky glare in Vada’s eyes, the red eye tool doesn’t get rid of that.

Mmm… my girls just adore brushing their teeth. First Mommy brushes for them, then they get to have a go. Sometimes they even ask to brush at random times during the day.

Finally DONE!! Craft Hope Quilt Reveal

That’s right, I finished the Craft Hope quilt last night. I have made a few quilts in the past, but I have never hand quilted one before. I grossly underestimated how long it would take! However, the quilts are due November 14th, so I am safe. Now I know, right.

Here is the quilt on Friday, I still had nearly half to do, see all the safety pins?

Half-Done-Quilting

To make matters worse, I woke up on Saturday feeling very under the weather. Luckily quilting is not too strenuous an activity, so I was able to sit and quilt all day. I finally finished Sunday afternoon. Here it is.
