Yup, that’s me, grace and charm. This morning my friend and neighbor was over. Last month she was in a bad car accident (not her fault) and she broke her back. She has to spend 6 months in a back brace and will not be able to go back to work until after that time. So she has taken to decorating her kids rooms. I have a few skills that can help, and a working back, so I happily volunteered some assistance. To be honest, I enjoy her company, and like being useful, so I’m helping for myself as well!
Anyway, this morning we took a few measurements for some shelves and curtains she needed, and then came back to my house to cut the shelves. I also had a shelf to put up in the girls’ playroom, so I cut that as well. While we were here, I was going to hang my shelf, then we were going back to her house to hang her shelves. I needed something from the basement, so I left my friend upstairs while I went downstairs.
I missed the last step. It hurt. A lot. I wasn’t sure how bad I had hurt myself. I really didn’t want to move. I called for my friend.
I’m sure the scene that ensued was rather comical. Me at the bottom of the stairs with a hurt ankle, and her with a back brace trying to help me. The whole time my biggest concern was making sure she didn’t hurt herself while helping me. I was able to sit up, and she got my first aid kit and ice pack. We wrapped the ice pack around my ankle with a bandage, and when I was able, I hobbled up the stairs. Obviously she couldn’t help me with that.
Clearly the ankle was not broken, just badly twisted/sprained. She made sure I had everything I needed within reach of my seat at my couch. Eventually she had to go home. I called Doug to run and pick up the girls between jobs. Later that evening my friend sent her mother over with dinner so I didn’t have to cook. How awesome is she?!
So here I sit, elevated ankle, very annoyed with myself. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be back to my normal self, hanging shelves all over the neighborhood, in short time!
For now, I have some addition photos from Christmas that I would like to share. They are all photos of Doug’s family.
Here we have four generations of woman in Doug’s family. His mother, grandmother, Vada, Kyla, Doug’s sister, and her daughter.
Things got a bit silly.
Then it was our turn to sit with Grandmom.
Then Doug’s sister and her family sat with Grandmom.
Now there were a few good snaps of Doug’s little brother and his girlfriend with Grandmom. This was my favorite. Doug’s little brother has had a bit of a time with life over the last several years. He is a good man and I love him dearly, so I am so happy that he is finally happy. I know a good deal of the reasoning for that is this lovely lady. Look at the way he looks at her. That is why I chose this picture. Love.
How could I possibly not share this one?
Grandmom with all her grandkids!
And three generations, Doug’s mom, Grandmom, his siblings, and his uncle (his mom’s brother.)
Mother and Daughter. Aren’t they beautiful. I am so blessed to have been brought into such a lovely and loving family, with so many strong, smart, and amazing women!
And lastly, Grandmom and her two babies.
I hope you have enjoyed the snaps.
