Knitted Cats and Dogs by Sue Stratford is full of 30 of the cutest, cuddliest friends you can create with yarn and needles. There are so many variations and adorable ideas. This book is a compilation of 2 of Sue’s previous books.
Sue starts her book with an introduction where she talks a little about how you can vary your creations by using different yarns and gauges. She also points out which patterns are best for beginners, as there are patterns for those of various skill levels in this book.
Next is a section on Materials and Tools, which will tell you all about everything you need to have to succeed in creating lovable pets who will not chew or scratch your furniture.
Now we have a wonderful section on techniques. This is a very important section, be sure to read it carefully. The best way to create professional looking critters is to know all the tips and tricks, and this section will tell you those!
Now, onto the patterns! What a selection. First of all, the patterns are written in a professional manner, and can be followed by most who can read patterns. If you are a beginner, you can try one of the easier patterns mentioned in the introduction, or you can be brave and try a harder one. The patterns are written well enough that you sure can give it a go!
There are a great variety of styles of cats and dogs available. Some look more realistic, some are cartoony. There are cats and dogs with clothing and accessories. There are even some mice! Go ahead, make a few. I promise, they won’t get into your favorite cheese.
Knitted Cats and Dogs is really a great book for anyone who wants to create some fun friends for themselves or for gifts. Obviously, if you are creating them for babies or toddlers you will want to take safety in mind when choosing how to make the eyes, and be super careful to sew everything together in a sturdy manner; but otherwise they are suitable for all ages!
