Pick-Up Mobius Ear Warmers

This pattern was so much fun to create. I’ve always been fascinated by mobius strips, and I prefer ear warmers that come in at the top, so mixing the two seemed only natural to me. This pattern is first worked in rows, then the long strip is joined into a mobius, and then it’s finished off in rounds. This pattern can be used to create ear warmers with nearly any weight yarn. I hope you enjoy creating these ear warmers as much as I did!

Pick-Up Mobius Ear Warmers
Knit Pattern
Intermediate Skill Level
Designed by Jessie Rayot

Size:
Any!

Yarn:
Pretty much any. Here’s what I used:
Lisa Souza Sock! Merino Turqua with Kreinik Blending Filament in Turquoise (100 yds of each)
Crystal Palace Yarns Allegro DK in Ivory with Kreinik Blending Filament in Silver (30 yds of each) and Crystal Palace Yarns Allegro DK in Butternut with Kreinik Blending Filament in Copper (40 yds of each)

Needles:
24″ circulars in whatever size goes with your yarn. I used US-4/3.5 mm for the Sock! (blue) sample, and US-6/4.00 mm for the Allegro DK (orange and white) sample.

Gauge:
Not important, this pattern is worked off measurements.

Other supplies:
1 stitch marker
yarn needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:
co – cast on
k – knit
p – purl
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
Before starting, measure the head of the wearer. Subtract 3 inches to find the length needed for the center strip.

Pattern:
Center Strip:
CO 5-15, depending on your yarn. For the lace weight sample, I cast on 10, for the DK weight I cast on 8
Row 1: K all.
Repeat row 1 until strip is desired length (3″ shorter then head measurement)
Bind off.

Fold strip into a loop. Add 1/2 twist and seam the 2 short ends together.

Edging:
Rnd 1: Pick up and knit into the edge of every other row as follows:
Gently stretch the piece and you will see a series of bumps and lines along the edge. Pick up and knit into each of the lines around. This will go all the way around the piece, place a marker once all stitches have been picked up.

Rnd 2: P all. ***
Rnd 3: K all.
Repeat rounds 2 & 3 to desired width, ending after a repeat of round 2.
Bind off knit wise. Weave in all ends

*** For the blue sample, I worked round 1 as  written, but I then worked 4 rounds of knit before continuing with round 2. This created a small section of stockinette stitch.
