Dress up your table with these fun and easy placemats. This is a great beginner project, as it is made entirely of single crochet. Tahki Cotton Classic comes in a very wide selection of colors, so you can make a set for every season!

Beginner Skill Level
Designed by Jessie Rayot
18” x 13 ½ “
Tahki Cotton Classic in 3 colors
Color A: 4248 Milk Chocolate, 40 g
Color B: 4253 Wheat, 40 g
Color C: 4718 Celadon, 100 g
US 6/G/4.00 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge
20 sts x 24 rows in a 4” square of sc
Stitches and Skills used:
ch ~ chain
sc ~ single crochet
When changing colors, finish the last stitch of the row in the first color, turn, and make the first chain of the next row using the second color. If you follow the stripe pattern listed, you will not need to clip the yarn when you change colors, you will be able to carry the unused colors up the sides of the placemat. When starting a new row without changing colors, catch the unused color in the ch 1 at the beginning of the row, to keep from having large loops at the edge of the work.
If you use a different yarn, 100% cotton is still recommended as it is easy to clean. One of the bonuses of the Tahki Cotton Classic yarn is that it is very colorfast, so if you have to wash your placemats a lot, the colors stay well and do not bleed on each other.
Row 1: Ch 91, turn, sc in the second ch from the hook and in each remaining ch across. (90 sc)
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in each sc across.
Repeat row 2: Until the color pattern has been completed 16 times, then make one more row of A and one more row of B.
Clip yarn and weave in ends.
Row 1: Color A
Row 2: Color B
Rows 3~5: Color C
