Size:
Child (Adult, Adult Large)
fits head 20 (22, 24)

Yarn:
Red Heart Strata bulky weight yarn in color of your choice. One skein per hat.

Hook:
US-N, 10.0mm – Knitter’s Pride Dreamz used

Gauge:
4 v-sts x 5 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc v-stitch

Other supplies:
yarn needleSusan Bates finishing needle used

Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Pattern:
Child Top Shaping:
Rnd 1: Ch 4, sl st into first ch made to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 7 dc in ring, sl st to top of beginning ch 3. – {8 dc}
Rnd 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 here and throughout), (dc, ch 1) in each st around, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 4. – {8 dc and 8 ch-1 sps}
Rnd 3: Sl st into first ch-1 sp, ch 4, dc in same ch -1 sp, (dc ,ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 sp around, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 4. – {8 sets of (dc, ch-1, dc)}
Rnd 4: Sl st into first ch-1 sp, ch 4, (dc, ch 1, dc) in same ch -1 sp, (dc ,ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 sp around, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 4. – {8 sets of (dc, ch-1, dc, ch-1, dc)}

  1. I just signed up for your site and looking at hat patterns and I see that most begin for a Toddler , only stating the measurements and it has toddler,( medium adult)… So I don’t know if I have to increase to get an adult ? Please help

    p.s. you have great patterns and the crocheting is Wonderful! And thanks for your Free patterns!

    • Just follow the instructions for the size you need. So if the pattern says 3 (4, 5) then the first size is 3, the second size is 4, and the last size is 5.

  2. On the child top shaping in the pattern rnd 7 it give the instructions and then eat the end it has a recap of what’s in the pattern and it has 2 sets of (dc, ch-1, dc, ch-1, dc) but in the instructions it is only one set. What do I do because it doesn’t work out
