Seed Stitch Entrelac Washcloth free knit pattern by Jessie At Home - 2Pin

Size:
9″ square

Yarn:
Kraemer Tatamy DK, (45% cotton, 55% acrylic) 100 g / 250 yds
Sea Blue 1730: 35 g / 90 yds per washcloth

Needles:
US-5, 3.75 mm

Gauge:
20 sts x 18 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stockinette stitch

Other supplies:
yarn needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:
k – knit
p – purl
kfb – knit in front and back of stitch
ssk – slip slip knit (explained)
p2tog – purl 2 together
ws – wrong side
rs – right side
st(s) – stitch(es)

Special Stitches:
ssk – Slip slip knit – (Slip next stitch knit wise) 2 times, insert left needle through the front of the stitches and knit them together.

Getting Started:
With entrelac, it is very important to trust the directions. Just follow them and it will work.
Entrelac also looks great in color changing yarn.

Pattern:

First Layer

Bottom Triangles
Cast on 36.
Row 1: (ws) P2, turn.
Row 2: (rs) K2, turn.
Row 3: P3, turn.
Row 4: K3, turn.
Row 5: P4, turn.
Row 6: K4, turn.
Row 7: P5, turn.
Row 8: K5, turn.
Row 9: P6, turn.
Row 10: K6, turn.
Row 11: P7, turn.
Row 12: K7, turn.
Row 13: P8, turn.
Row 14: K8, turn.
Row 15: P9, DO NOT TURN.
Repeat rows 1 – 15: 3 more times.

Second Layer

Right-Hand Corner Triangle
Row 1:
 K2, turn.
Row 2: P2, turn.
Row 3: Kfb, ssk, turn.
Row 4: P3, turn.
Row 5: Kfb, k1, ssk, turn.
Row 6: P4, turn.
Row 7: Kfb, k2, ssk, turn.
Row 8: P5, turn.
Row 9: Kfb, k3, ssk, turn.
Row 10: P6, turn.
Row 11: Kfb, k4, ssk, turn.
Row 12: P7, turn.
Row 13: Kfb, k5, ssk, turn.
Row 14: P8, turn.
Row 15: Kfb, k6, ssk, DO NOT TURN.

Right Side Square
Row 1:
Pick up and knit 9 sts evenly down the left side of the triangle next to the point of the right needle, turn. – {18 sts on right needle}
Row 2 – 18 even: (K1, p1) 4 times, k1, turn.
Row 3 – 17 odd: (K1, p1) 4 times, ssk, turn.
Row 19: (K1, p1) 4 times, k1, ssk, DO NOT TURN.

Make 3 more right side squares

Left-Hand Corner Triangle
Row 1:
Pick up and knit 9 sts down the left side of the triangle next to the point of the right needle, turn.
Row 2:
 P2tog, p7, turn.
Row 3: K8, turn.
Row 4: P2tog, p6, turn.
Row 5: K7, turn.
Row 6: P2tog, p5, turn.
Row 7: K6, turn.
Row 8: P2tog, p4, turn.
Row 9: K5.
Row 10: P2tog, p3, turn.
Row 11: K4, turn.
Row 12: P2tog, p2, turn.
Row 13: K3, turn.
Row 14: P2tog, p1, turn.
Row 15: K2, turn.
Row 16: P2tog, DO NOT TURN.

Third Layer

Wrong Side Square
Row 1:
Pick up and knit 8 sts down the left side of the triangle next to the point of the right needle.
Row 2 – 18 even:
P9, turn.
Row 3 – 17 even: K8, ssk, turn.
Row 19: K8, ssk, DO NOT TURN.

Make 3 more wrong side rectangles with the following change: in row 1, pick up and purl 9 sts, not just 8.

Fourth Layer

Repeat Second Layer.

Fifth Layer

Repeat Third Layer.

Sixth Layer

Repeat Second Layer.

Seventh Layer

Right Side Top Triangles
Row 1:
Pick up and knit 9 sts down the left side of the triangle next to the point of the right needle.
Row 2: K8, ssk, turn.
Row 3: P8, p2tog, turn.
Row 4:
K7, ssk, turn.
Row 5: P7, p2tog, turn.
Row 6: K6, ssk, turn.
Row 7: P6, p2tog, turn.
Row 8: K5, ssk, turn.
Row 9: P5, p2tog, turn.
Row 10: K4, ssk, turn.
Row 11: P4, p2tog, turn.
Row 12: K3, ssk, turn.
Row 13: P3, p2tog, turn.

  1. Hi I love this pattern. I like the idea of the entrelac without have colour changes. My question is would I be able to make this into a child’s blanket and how easy would it be to convert?
