Slow and Steady

I promised you all pictures of my work room after it was covered in soot, and of the renovations. So here are some.

I-was-organizing-thisPin

This was my couch, post soot. I had just moved a bunch of stuff onto it to sort through. Notice the paper at the bottom right corner of the picture, the black bag is on it. That paper was white and clean before this all happened.

One-of-the-yarn-shelves-with-sootPin

This was one of the bookshelves full of yarn. If you look closely you can see where I ran my finger across the shelves. If there was that much soot on the shelves, imagine how much made it into the yarn.

Lots-of-sootPin

This was on my blocking table. The mints case (my pin box) was on that wooden lid. You can see the outline there after I moved it. You can also see where I whipped the soot off the label on the green yarn.

Table-after-removing-itemsPin

My blocking table, after I removed everything that was on it. The timing couldn’t have been worse. I was in the middle of organizing, so there was stuff everywhere. I ended up just piling everything into bins and boxes to get it all out of my side of the basement and to go through and clean later.

So, after removing everything, I cleaned my half of the basement. Here it is, cleaned up and ready to be transformed into a real studio for me!

Look-what-I-foundPin

While trying to find places for everything I packed up, I unearthed this. I put it in the basement when we first moved into this house.

ready-for-drywallPin

This is the wall under/next to the stairs. I had the floor evened out right there, and then build a wall ~ with a LOT of help via email and phone from my father, and with help from Doug as well.

Isn’t it pretty? There is still a lot to do, but I’m really hopeful that I can get the studio put together and the new wall finished by the end of the weekend. The new wall is where I will be storing all my yarn. Hence the need to make sure it is all insulated and clean. Plus, it should make for a fun place to take photos!

That’s all for now. I’ll keep taking photos and hopefully I will have more to share next week!

  1. Hi!
How exciting that you are getting your proper studio! It will be fabulous and your creativity will just flow 🙂 I have a little corner in our day room and small space for my yarn. Thankfully my sons have grown up and left home so I have their rooms for storage 🙂
Congratulations and enjoy. It will be lovely.
Thanks for sharing so many lovely work!
    Love,
    Ana

  2. Oh wow how nice. Have been wanting to set up something like this. Well… a small version. Was looking at our tack board & the thing that stood out to me is Ani DiFranco, we love her!!
Good luck on your exciting project.
