Basement Organizing & Yarn Stash

I spent most of the day in the basement doing some cleaning and organizing. My cutting table was covered with varoius…stuff, and there was a stack of bins and crates 8 feet long and 3 feet tall next to the sofa. I have been looking for the same skein of yarn for weeks now and I finally couldn’t take it anymore. I knew it was in one of those bins!

The first thing I did was pull out some of the yarn boxes I had, so I could put things away. For now most of my yarn and other arts and crafts supplies are in copy paper boxes. Doug gets them free from work, and they fit on the shelves. Eventually I will rip out all the shelves along the wall under the stairs in the basement and put up new yarn and fabric storage. It will be efficient and pretty!

One day.

For now…paper boxes.

The cleaning took up a lot of room. As you can see, it even spread to the opposite wall where my sewing table is. Yes, that’s Darla on the TV, I have been watching Buffy & Angel when I am working downstairs. I like to have the background noise, and I have seen them enough times that they do not distract me too much.

I really got into a zone. I didn’t even remember to eat lunch. So there aren’t any more process pictures. I didn’t take pictures of the cutting table or the long stack of bins and crates, either. Most everything found a home, but a few bins and boxes of items ended up in the back room of the basement to be gone through at a later date.

Here are the final pictures of today’s work. It will give you an idea of the massiveness of my yarn stash. The top bin in the picture above is full of Red Heart Super Saver yarn, most from my Grammy’s stash that she gave to me a couple years ago. The yarn stash count is at 1 bin.

Next to that are 6 boxes full of various yarns. Most boxes are very full, as you can see, some are even too full to close well. The yarn stash count is at 1 bin, 6 boxes.

Here are 7 more boxes of yarn. The stack of boxes at the right edge of the picture is mainly fabric. The yarn stash count is at 1 bin, 13 boxes.

This is the yarn from my awesome yarn haul last winter. For the sake of counting, we will count each of those boxes as one paper box. They basically fit the same amount. The yarn stash count is at 1 bin, 17 boxes.

Next to the couch are the big bins I use for shows/fairs and such. The top bin has some of the finished items I list in my Etsy shop. Actually, I need to go through that at a later date and get it all listed. There is a fabric basket on the couch full of yarn. It is there for a project I need to start sometime in the nearish future.

This covered rack is also full of Etsy items.

After taking all the snaps, I realized I missed 3 boxes. One was full of crocheted flowers, motifs and swatches, one had tee shirts for tee shirt yarn, and one was full of net yarn. For the count, we will only use the last back. That puts the final count at 1 bin, 18 boxes. That does not count the basket of yarn on the downstairs couch, the basket of yarn next to the upstairs couch, or the crate of yarn for the Kathrine coat.

I may have a yarn addiction.

I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Oh, and I did find the skein of yarn I was looking for.
