In mid-May Jenn had a wonderful idea to take the girls on a great little outing for one of our Wednesday Play/Craft Days.
We got all dolled up and the girls put on their shoes. Look at those cute little pink toenails! One day they noticed mine and just begged for pretty pink toes, too. So now we have fun mommy and girls mani/pedi days about once a week. They love it. I love the hair drier with the cool setting I use to dry them so they don’t get nail polish on everything!
OK, we’re all ready to go.
Come on Mom! Jenn and the girls are out front, it’s time to GO!!
So we got our little caravan going and stopped off at 7-11 for some snacks, and fee-free ATM.
Did I tell you where we were going? No? The Turtle Back Zoo. I even wore these theme appropriate earrings my brother bought me when we went to the Grand Canyon. I had a coupon for half off admission for 4, so we used it for Jenn and I and two of the girls. The six of us got in for $27 total! To add to the awesomeness, the zoo allows you to bring in your own food and drink, so we didn’t have to buy any overpriced food! I love outings with Jenn, we are both very frugal, so we manage to find ways of having fun without spending a lot. This entire outing, including gas and food, cost each family less then $20. That is more then we usually spend ~ many of our outings are free, so it’s just the cost of gas and food we bring ~ but it is still a good deal for a day at the zoo!
Once we were all in, the first stop was at the home of these cute little groundhogs. It’s a very big habitat for them, and there are tons of the little guys.
Katrina decided Vada needed some assistance keeping up with the group. Isn’t she sweet?
“Look Mom, chicken, bawk,bawk.”
“I can do the chicken, too! Bawk, bawk.”
They had a little petting zoo attached to the farm animal area. Vada liked the sheep.
There was a peacock couple that wandered about the zoo freely. Mr. Peacock seemed to have no interest in showing off his pretty tail.
Then we came upon another Mr. Peacock who was happy to show off his tail, and do a few spins. Unfortunately, the light were he was wasn’t great for photos.
Photo opp by the elephant sculpture! This was the best of the shots. One of the few without at least one of the girls climbing the elephant.
Monkey!! Sorry, he was very energetic. I think I took a dozen snaps of the spot he was in just a moment before. One of the things I don’t like about digital cameras, too much delay.
There was an amazing Asian exhibit. I loved these cranes.
Chilling out at the Asian exhibit.
Here is the back end of a muntjac ~ it’s a kind of deer. I was trying to get a snap of it and the buried face in it’s habitat.
Of course, you can’t go to the Turtle Back Zoo without saying hi to the turtles.
Once we had walked around for a while, we stopped over at the picnic section, and enjoyed our sack lunches. It was the day after my birthday, so Jenn brought yummy deserts!
A good time was had by all!
IÂ hope all of you are having lovely summers, also!

Looks like you had a lovely day at the zoo! My favorite outing when it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!
