Crochet Star Stitch Written Instructions with Photos

The Crochet Star Stitch is worked over an odd number of stitches. For the video and chart in this tutorial I started with a base of 25 single crochet. The stitch pattern begins with row 2. I’ve also included a finishing row to end your swatch with a row of single crochet. The first and last rows of single crochet are simply to neaten up the top and bottom of your swatch if you want to keep it for future reference. I like to staple mine to an index card with the name of the pattern on it.

Row 1 (WS): FSC an odd number of stitches.
Ch an even number of stitches, turn, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.

Row 2 (RS): Turn, ch 2, insert hook in front loop of second ch from hook, yo, pull through (2 loops on hook), insert hook in back loop of same ch, yo, pull through (3 loops on hook), insert hook in first st, yo, pull through (4 loops on hook), [insert hook in next st, yo, pull through] 2 times (6 loops on hook), yo, pull through all, ch-1 (this creates “eye” of star), *insert hook in eye of previous star, yo, pull through (2 loops on hook), insert hook in loop on side of previous star, yo, pull through (3 loops on hook), insert hook in same st a the last loop of the previous star was worked into, yo, pull through (4 loops on hook), [insert hook in next st, yo, pull through] 2 times (6 loops on hook), yo, pull through all, ch-1; repeat from * across, hdc in last st (same st as last loop of last star worked into).

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in first ch-1 sp, 2 sc in each ch-1 across, sc in last st.

Repeat Rows 2-3 to desired size.

Finishing Row: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st and in each st across.
