Knit Yourself Calm by Lynne Rowe and Betsan Corkhill is full of a variety of knit projects that can be used to relieve stress. Weather you need something mindless, something to focus on, or something to do with friends, there is a project for you in this book.
Creating something with your own hands can be meditative and rewarding, and ultimately something you can be proud of and cherish.
The book begins with a forward and an introduction that explain a bit about how knitting helps with stress and the ways the various projects can be used. It is important to know which kind of project you need and the authors lay that out for you. The book is arranged with the various styles of projects each having a section of their own, so you can go right to what you need when you need it!
There is a section on materials and tools so you will know what you need, and how to use it. At the end there is a section of essential techniques, so you can learn any technique in the book that you may not already know. Rowe and Corkhill have given you everything you need to be successful.
The first section is Quick & Easy Projects. These are good when you need a quick fix to raise your mood. Next is Portable Projects, perfect for managing stress on the go, or when you need a break at work. Then we have group projects. I think we all know the health benefits of being with friends, and these projects are made for just that. After that is Big Projects. These become nice companions you can turn to again and again when you need to unwind. Lastly is New Skills Projects. Learning new skills improves brain health, these are also great for when you need to focus on something new.
The projects in this book are quite lovely. You can, of course, use colors that speak to you to make them each your own. The patterns are written in an easy to follow manner for anyone who knows how to read a pattern. They are well-written and all skills are explained either in the pattern or in the end of the book.
