Yarn:
Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Paints, 100% Pima Cotton, DK weight, 100 g/220 yds
Color 9860 Atlantic, 85 g/187 yds

Hook:
US-E/4, 3.5mm

Gauge:
21 sts x 14 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern

Other supplies:
yarn needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
bpdc – back post double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
This stitch pattern can be worked over any multiple of 6 + 1.

Pattern:

Row 1: Ch 56, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch. – {55 hdc}
Row 2: Turn, ch 1 (does not count as a st here or throughout), hdc in each of first 3 sts, (bpdc around next st, hdc in each of next 5 sts) until 4 sts remain, bpdc around next st, hdc in last 3 sts.
Row 3: Turn, ch 1, hdc in first 2 sts, (fpdc around each of next 3 sts, hdc in each of next 3 sts) repeat until 5 sts remain, fpdc around each of next 3 sts, hdc in last 2 sts.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until piece is square, ending with a repeat of row 2.

Border:
Rnd 1: Turn, ch 3, sc in same st, sc in each st until 1 st remains, (sc, ch 2, sc) in last st, 53 sc evenly down side of piece, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, sc across bottom until 1 st remains, (sc, ch 2, sc) in last st, 53 sc evenly up side of piece, sc in corner, sl st to first ch of beginning ch 3. – {220 sc}
Rnd 2: Ch 3, sc in same ch-2 sp [sc in each st to ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp] 3 times, sc in each st to ch-2 sp, sc in ch-2 sp, sl st to first ch of beginning ch 3. – {228 sc}

  1. Hello. This is a beautiful washcloth but I believe there’s an error. You state the stitch multiple is 6+1, yet you have a starting chain of 56, which doesn’t match the multiple. I’ve tried several times and can’t get the pattern to come out right.

    • The first row has 55 stitches, which is a multiple of 6+1. If you are having another problem, you’ll have to let me know what’s stumping you.
