Never Forget . . . not that I ever could.

Never forget. That always seemed odd to me, how could I forget? If I forget everything else, I will always remember that Tuesday, 18 years ago. 18 years. How did that happen?

Well, this year I have jury duty today. I have no idea how long I will be gone, so if I don’t post for a bit, don’t worry, I’m just doing my duty as a citizen of the USA.

I’m not in the mindset to say more. So HERE is what I said in 2011 and HERE is what I said in 2014.

You are loved. You are important. You are alive. Never forget that. Let’s value that in ourselves and others. Let’s be kind. Hug people today. Hug people every day.

Hello my Blogland friends! I hope you had a lovely Holiday season and your New Year is starting out well. I have some pictures of our holidays to share with you.

A little bit before Christmas we made some candy to give away. We made some Christmas shapes, and we also made a few of these:

This summer I had the pleasure of reading The Secret Stitch by C.Jane Reid. When I first picked it up I was a little worried as it is “fiber fiction” and sometimes books written around hobbies aren’t the greatest. I was very happy to discover that C. Jane Reid is really wonderful author!

Stay tuned to the end of this post for a chance to win your own copy!

This past Sunday I went on the NYC Yarn Crawl with my awesome friends Marie of Underground Crafter and Amy of The Stitchin’ Mommy. We weren’t able to hit all the stores on the crawl, as we just had one day, but we had a great time at the stores we did hit.

Our first store was School Products Yarn. I didn’t snap any photos at that store,  but I got some at the rest.

Our second stop was Annie & Company.

Thankful

Today I am thankful for Doug’s Grandmother, Gertrude ~ Gertie to her friends.

The first time I met Doug’s family was for his Grandfather’s 89th birthday. Doug was very close to his grandfather, and he said he didn’t think his grandfather was going to be around for 90, so he wanted me to meet him. We had only been dating for about a month, and I met the whole family all at once. It was a little scary, but I had a nice time, and I really liked both his grandparents.

Doug was right, his grandfather didn’t see 90. Gertie came to most of the family functions with her son, Tom. I remember the first Easter I spent with them. Doug and I had been dating for almost a year at that point. Someone mentioned peeps, and I said the only thing they were good for was blowing up in the microwave. This intrigued Gertie. I told her that they expand in the microwave, and if you are careful you can stop the microwave before they explode and make a giant peep. This REALLY intrigued her. Alyson (Doug’s sister) and I went to the Wawa (like 7-11) and bought some peeps.  (more…)

Unicorn Fibre Yarn Wash & Rinse Review

Hello my friends! I hope you had a fun and safe Halloween weekend!

Today I want to talk to you a bit about Unicorn Fibre and their yarn care line of products. These products are great for blocking your crochet and knit items, as well as cleaning and general care. They also work for cleaning yarnie family heirlooms!

unicorn_fibre_logo_1416462435_11223_1418281059__62448

When I first met the lovely ladies of Unicorn Fibre at the TNNA summer show several months back, my original intention was to share about the Pour Scour with you. Pour Scour is their product that is great for your super dirty jobs. Maybe you have a yellowing baby blanket that has been handed down for generations, a handmade afghan that you inherited from a smoker, your baby sweater that smells like the attic it was stored in, or maybe you spilled your glass of wine or mug of tea or coffee on your current work in progress. Pour Scour is the product you need for these situations! Now, I was planning on giving it a big old testing of all sorts of situations for you, but then plans changed.

As you know if you’re one of my regular readers, there was a bit of a soot disaster in my makeshift basement workroom a a couple months back.

Happy Tuesday my friends! I hope your week is off to a good start.

Did you do anything special for I Love Yarn Day on Saturday? I went to Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. I didn’t take a lot of pictures, as I was having a lot of fun and kept forgetting.

I did remember to take a photograph of where I parked. I’ve been doing that a lot when I go somewhere by myself. I’m always worried I’ll forget where I parked. But I’m sure you don’t need to see that photo, so here are a couple I took of yarnie people and pretty fall foliage.

Twisted-and-Twirled-Teaser

You know what they say about the best laid plans…

I was planning on sharing all the details on the Twisted and Twirled MCAL / MKAL e~books with you today. However…

There was the home improvement disaster

Followed by the never~ending unplanned studio reno

And my regular blog schedule to keep up, including new patterns every Thursday

Plus my future Sister~In~Law who is marrying Doug’s little brother on Saturday needed me to fix her wedding dress this weekend (pictures after the wedding)…

So…

Something had to give. I have a few more small patterns to finish editing and photographing for the e~books. There will be one e~book for the crochet patterns, and one for the knit patterns. They will have all the patterns I shared with you during the MCAL and MKAL, plus a couple bonus patterns in each that will only be available in the e~books.

I have a lot of fun things to share with you over the next week or two. Keep on stopping by. There is also a spot at the top of the right sidebar where you can enter your email to get a notice of new posts.

Well, happy Monday my friends, have a great week!

Oh soot!

This post may contain affiliate links. If you purchase something from one of these links I will be compensated. Thank you.

Well, it’s been quite a week over here. Last Monday there was a bit of a home improvement snafu. On Thursday I made a video to tell you about it and to show you around my basement as it was at that moment. Please excuse the shaky view of a hammer at the beginning while I ramble on (and the misspelling of shaky on the video, it’s been a long week).

So, I will share some of those sooty photos with you next week, along with other photos I have been taking along the way, and an update. In the meantime, check out Unicorn Fibres, they rock!! I’ve cleaned most of the yarn by now and it is all pretty and smells really great. I’ll share more details on that later as well.

Here is one shot of the soot. The paper on the clipboard was pure white and clean on Monday morning.

Stitch ‘N’ Pitch

| Blanket, Costume, Friends, Star Wars, Stories

This post may contain affiliate links. If you purchase something from one of these links I will be compensated. Thank you.

Hello there! A few weekends ago I attended the 2015 Stitch ‘N’ Pitch at a NY Mets game. The Stitch ‘N’ Pitch is an event that happens at various pro baseball games around the country in association with TNNA (The National Needlearts Association). The Stitch ‘N’ Pitch that I attended was also sponsored by Lion Brand Yarn. They gave all the attendees a goodie bag with some yarn so that everyone could make some afghan squares for Warm Up America, a wonderful organization that makes and collects hand made blankets for those in need.

It was tons of fun! I went with Amy of Stitchin’ Mommy. We met there, as she lives in Queens, and I live in NJ. I miss living in Queens, it was so much easier to go play in Manhattan, and to go to fun events without having to drive and park.

Anyway, I drove to the game. The bus from here only runs every 2 hours on the weekend, and would require a transfer to the subway as well. By the time all the tickets are purchased, it is pretty much the same cost as tolls and parking, so I decided I would rather drive. Public transit is not as affordable or convenient coming from NJ. I got in at noon for a 1:10 game, and I still ended up parking pretty far away. I snapped a photo of where I was parked so I would be able to find Thor again after the game.

Once I got to the gate, I met up with Amy and we went in. As we arrived, we stumbled upon (more…)

Busy, busy, busy

Hello friends! I feel like we haven’t chatted in a long time. I’ve posted patterns and product reviews and round ups and such, but no chatting. Things have been very busy for me lately. We left on June 30th to go visit my parents in Sicily, and we just got back late on July 15th. It was a lot of fun, but I got rather behind in my schedule. So I have been working hard to catch up. The rest of the summer looks to remain busy as well.

I haven’t had the time to go through the nearly 2,000 photos taken by myself, my husband, and my parents, that are now all on my laptop just waiting for attention. I’m sure 1,000 of them can be deleted, but still, that’s a lot of photos!!! This one may be my favorite right now. It was taken on the way up Mt. Etna.

Sheep-jam-on-the-way-up-Mt-Etna-in-Sicily

I do hope to share about my trip with you, but it will most likely be closer to the end of the summer before that happens. There is still more busy coming up. In the meantime, I have patterns, round ups, and lots of knit and crochet fun to share throughout the summer.
