Daisy chaos and camera news

Last night was our first Daisy meeting of the year. Upon turning in our room request schedule for the meetings at the school, we discovered that the policies had changed and we needed 40 days notice to request a room. Oops, we were a little late for the first meeting. We managed to get the cafeteria for all our other meetings, but we could not use the school at all for the first. So, I volunteered my house; after all, that is one of the reasons I wanted to buy a house to begin with. My house growing up was always open to all, it was nice.

So last night we had the meeting here. Between the excitement of the first meeting of the year, having a new member, not being at the school,  being at my house, and the lighting storm out the windows ~ it was a bit chaotic. I think it felt more like a play date or party to the girls, then a meeting. We did at least get a little done. We talked about what the girls liked the most last year, and wanted this year. We danced to some fun Daisy/Girl Scout songs. We learned a new song to sing, and how to sing in rounds. We had a great chat with the girls about respect, and what they think respect means. So, even through the chaos, I think we did OK.

The rest of the meetings will be back in the school cafeteria, as I mentioned before, so it should be much calmer once things are back to normal with our meeting space.

I made the girls some blue net hair ruffles (I used this pattern, but only gathered 4 net spaces in each st, and made it go all the way around the band.) I made them with 3 different yarns, you can see 2 in the photo below, the third was the most popular, so there are none left.

Have I told you that I lost my camera about a month back? It was quite sad. I have no clue what happened to it. Thankfully my wonderful friend Elizabeth let me borrow one of hers for a bit. Isn’t it pretty? I fell in love!!! I want one of my own just like it, but it is not in the budget at this time.

I started looking for a replacement for my old camera. Basically the end goal is to have 2 or 3 cameras. The first like my lost one, a good point and shoot digital camera that also takes videos. This would be our family/every day camera. The second would be one like what Elizabeth lent me. It takes much better pictures, and snaps the photo the moment you hit the button (no lag time so you actually get the shot you want) and takes close ups that are just breath~taking; yet is still not too big so it can be taken out and about with me to yarn days, knit and crochet shows, kiddie recitals, and the like. The last would be the super~duper~fancy~pants kind that will make my pattern photos as impressive as the patterns themselves (hear that, it’s me tooting my own horn ;^P). I think eventually I will even get a decent video camera as well, because, boy do I have plans for you!!

So, one at a time, right? Just as I was about to purchase camera number one, my awesome friend Laura let me know she was sending me her old family/every day camera, as she had others and did not use this one any more. Yesterday it arrived.

It may look a little bit beat up, but…books…covers…you know how that goes! So this morning I gave it a test run. The first test was taking the snap of the camera that Elizabeth had lent me. I do really love that camera, but I need to be able to take videos as well…

Next I gave some close ups a shot. I needed to see how the stitch definition would look for my pattern process photos. I think it did rather well, don’t you.

Last I added in some bright and traditionally non~camera friendly colors. Still doing good. I am quite pleased. It was a relief to not have to buy a camera right now, as Doug has started year 4 of teaching in Paterson with no contact and a pay freeze, so money is still VERY tight. We are finding ways to get through, though we hope something will change soon.

Well, that’s all the news I have for you right now. Have a nice weekend, my friends!
