Easy Crochet Lace Bordered Shawl – Seas of Change

Easy crochet lace is such a great way to add something special to a basic shawl pattern. Seas of Change wrap is a simple double crochet triangular shawl with a super pretty and super easy crochet lace border. A change of colors between the two parts brings even more interest to the shawl.

The yarn for this design was provided by Love Crafts. All opinions are my own.

Willow & Lark Nest (69% wool / 11% cashmere / 20% tencel) 50 g / 125 yd
Lake Blue 217, Color A: 4 skeins
Hunter 213, Color B: 2 skeins

Hook:
US-G/6, 4 mm

17 sts x 10 rows = 4” [10 cm] in double crochet

bpdc – back post double crochet
dc – double crochet
dc cl – double crochet cluster
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together
fpdc – front post double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet

st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
Row counts are at the end of each row after the period, if the count has changed from the previous row. – {count here}
Chs and sl sts are not included in Row counts unless specified.

Pattern:

Row 1: With Color A, ch 4, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in first ch made.
Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout) 2 dc in same st, dc in next st, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in next st, 3 dc in last st. – {12 dc}
Row 3: Turn ch 3, 2 dc in same st, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st until 1 st remains, 3 dc in last st. – {20 dc}
Rows 4-35: Repeat Row 3. – {276 dc after Row 35}
Fasten off and then weave in all ends.

Border

Switch to Color B.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in same st, *skip 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st; repeat from * until 1 st before ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp, skip 1, **(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st, skip 3; repeat from ** to last st, 3 dc in last st, turn. – {280 dc}
Row 2: Turn, ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same st, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * to ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, **(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from ** to end, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in last st. – {284 dc}
Row 3: Turn, ch 3, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * to ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 sp, **(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from ** to end, dc in last st. – {292 dc}
Row 4: Turn, ch 5 (count as first dc and ch-2), *5 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, repeat from * until 1 ch-1 sp remains before ch-2 sp, place marker, 5 dc in next ch-1 sp, 7 dc in ch-2 sp, 5 dc in next ch-1 sp, place marker, **ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, 5 dc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from ** to end, ch 2, dc in last st. – {36 sets of 5 dc and 1 set of 7 dc}
Row 5: Turn, ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1), *(dc in next dc, ch 1) 5 times, dc in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * to marker, replace marker, (dc in next dc, ch 1) to next marker, replace marker, **dc in next sc, ch 1, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 5 times; repeat from ** to end, ch 1, dc in last st. – {223 dc}
Row 6: Turn, ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2), *(dc in next dc, ch 2) 4 times, dc in next dc, skip 1 dc; repeat from * to marker, replace marker, (dc in next dc, ch 2) to one dc before marker, dc in next dc, replace marker, **skip 1 dc, (dc in next dc, ch 2) 4 times, dc in next dc; repeat from ** to end, ch 2, dc in last st. – {189 dc}
Row 7: Turn , ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in same st, (ch 3, sc in next dc) 4 times, *ch 3, sc between next 2 dc, (ch 3, sc in next dc) 3 times; repeat from * to marker, ch 3, sc between next 2 dc, remove marker, (ch 3, sc in next dc) to marker, ch 3, remove marker, **sc between next 2 dc, (ch 3, sc in next dc) 3 times, ch 3; repeat from ** to end, ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 3, dc in last st. – {154 sets of ch-3}
Fasten off and then weave in ends.
