I have been working on my next pattern. It’s one I started a while back and put to the side because I had too much on my plate. It started out as a short vest.

I then continued the pattern to make it long with slits up the sides. There is something about this style of vest that I have always loved.

When I first started dating Doug, I had a stretchy red long vest that only closed at the base of the neck shaping and had slits up the sides. It was one of my favorite pieces of clothing I owned.

So now, here is my version. I have written the pattern for sizes XS/S, M/L, 1/2X, 3/4X, and 5X. I will be posting a testers needed post in the usual place this week (I’d say Tuesdayish.)
ETA – testing is over, the pattern can be found HERE.

The pattern allows you to make it any length you want, from cropped on down, and to start the slits at any height you want. There are suggestions for a variety of closures, as well.

The one you have been looking at here is another that will end up in my Etsy store, as it is a M/L, so it won’t fit me. It should be on Etsy by Tuesday. There was one more edit to the pattern after this one was made, I raised the neckline a bit. This way the vest still looks good if it is only closed with one tie/button/whatever, just at the bottom of the neckline. With the sample you have been looking at, it just was too low and looked odd when I only closed it at the one point. Luckily inspiration struck and I decided to try lacing it shut. Pretty nifty look, isn’t it?

So with the final pattern lacing will be a possible choice for closures, and it will also look good with just one or two little closures at the top. I am making one more tester myself before I get other testers, just to be sure the alterations are good. This one should fit me.

Well, I’ve got to get ready to head off to InsaniTea for our fun Yarn Day!
Talk to you soon.
