National Princess Week
The kit used in this post was provided by LEGO.
Did you know this week (4/22-4/28) is National Princess Week? Kyla is super excited about it, she’s all about princesses. Lego even sent us this nifty Mulan’s Training Day Build and Swap set to help us celebrate!
We are big Mulan fans in this house. When the girls were just toddlers we bought the DVD of Mulan and we watched it ALL the time. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen the movie, and I still love it. I was very happy that the first movie the girls fell in love with was one that showed them a strong and intelligent woman.
Of course, Kyla loves all things princess. I remember when she was in kindergarten she got a tiara and wore it to school. I completely expected her teachers to tell her she wasn’t allowed to wear it in school (it’s like a hat), but no one said a thing. She wore a tiara to school nearly every day for the next 3 years. She still wears one to school occasionally. I fully expect her to wear one this entire week.
Vada likes princesses a bit, but she is really more into Tinkerbell, fairies, and Spider-man. She says that princesses are “Kyla’s thing”. Still, her favorite princess is Cinderella, and until she grew out of her Cinderella dress up costume, she would wear it now and then.
They both are obsessed with LEGOs – who am I kidding, all 4 of us are obsessed with LEGOs, they are just so fun! The girls love the build and swap sets because they all work so well together. They really encourage creative play, which I like.
I’m thinking when I run to the grocery store today I need to get some tea party supplies so the girls and I can have a tea party and watch princess movies on Wednesday. I think that will be super fun. Maybe I’ll even borrow a tiara from Kyla.
So how do you plan on celebrating National Princess Week? After all, Kyla loves to remind us that all girls are princesses.
Remember, as Mulan, Rapunzel, Leia, and so many other princesses lately show us: princesses can be strong and independent, they do not always need to be rescued. We can all be self-rescuing princesses, I know I am! (and I know Mulan isn’t technically a princess, but she falls in the genre with Disney.)
If you want to get your own Mulan’s Training Day set, you can find it on Amazon HERE. It’s super fun!
