Are you a crocheter who loves a little geeky fun? Do you have a tabletop RPG-loving friend or family member who would absolutely adore a handmade dice bag… that is actually a giant dice-shaped shoulder bag?
Then I have the crochet adventure for you!
And yes, this CAL is every bit as fun and geeky as it sounds.

How it Works: We’re Crocheting These Bags Together, Step by Step!
The CAL will last 5 weeks, and we’ll build our bags step by step throughout the weeks.
Our Kick-off Virtual Meeting is October 13, and we’ll finish things off with a Virtual Wrap Party on November 13.
In between, there will be weekly virtual meetings where we can crochet together, share our progress, ask questions, and offer tips and encouragement.
But don’t worry if you can’t make the meetings!
None of the virtual meetings are mandatory. They’re simply a fun opportunity to connect with other crocheters and get help if you need it.
You can also ask questions, share your progress, and get tips right in the CAL community whenever it works for you. Some of your progress photos shared in the community may even end up in the Jessie At Home weekly newsletter.
Options: Make Your Dice Your Own! 🎲
Six Dice. Six Bags. One Epic CAL!
For this CAL, you’ll choose your favorite RPG dice shape and crochet it into a fabulous, functional shoulder bag.
You can choose from six different dice shapes: D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 – You can even get the full set along with a bonus pattern.
And, I’m going to be right there crocheting along with you!
In fact, I’ll be making two D20 bags during the CAL, because both of my twins have requested one. Apparently, when you design a large dice-shaped bag, your kids expect you to make some for them.
Colors: Go Forth and be Creative!
The samples shown with the patterns use one color for the sides and another color for the accents, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick with that color scheme.
You can make every side a different color. You can use two colors. You can create a rainbow die (you know I LOVE rainbows). You can coordinate it with your favorite RPG character. You can go subtle or completely over-the-top.
Lining and Straps, or Something Else?
Now, I know what some of you may be thinking…
“A structured lining? And straps? That sounds scary!”
Don’t be afraid!
I’ve created video tutorials for nearly every step of the bags, including the parts that might look a little intimidating at first.
So even if you’ve never made a structured bag before, you’ll have plenty of guidance along the way.
And if you get stuck, that’s exactly what our CAL community is for!
If a shoulder bag isn’t the style you’re looking for, each pattern also includes a smaller size of the bag that’s finished to be a bag to hold your dice. You are welcome to make that style instead, it has a lot less finishing.
OR, you could even make either size as a stuffed toy. I’m happy to help you change up the finishing and even teach you how to make a fabric inner if you worry about the stuffing popping through the crochet.

Don’t get too stressed about time, either. I’ve done my best to give time for everyone to finish, but we all have different amounts of time available. If you don’t finish, no one will judge. You’ll still get some great lessons and good times in the community and at the virtual meetings. Then when you do have time, finishing your bag will be a breeze.

Woo-hoo! Free is fab! Even yarn and supplies can strain a budget these days. We don’t expect you to go broke just to have fun together, so there’s not cost to join the CAL.

You will still need to purchase your pattern(s), yarn, and other supplies, but joining the CAL itself is free.
