Skylark Cloche Hat

I designed the Skylark Cloche Hat to match the Skylark Scarf. It can be made with the leftover yarn from the scarf! Skylark has a fun 20’s look to it, and adds a fun and elegant flair to your fall and winter wardrobe.

Yarn:
RED HEART® Unforgettable: 1 skeins main color (A) 1 skein contrasting color (B).
Hook:
US 8/H/5.00 mm
Gauge:
18 sts x 20 rows = 4” in single crochet
Stitches and Skills used:
ch ~ chain
dc ~ double crochet
hdc ~ half double crochet
sc ~ single crochet
fsc ~ foundation single crochet(optional)
st(s) ~ stitch(es)
Getting Started:
This hat can be made with the leftover yarn from the Skylark scarf, if you make the scarf the size listed in the directions, and start with 2 full skeins of color A and 1 full skein of color B.
Pattern:
Round 1: With color A, ch 4, sl st into first ch made to form a loop, ch 1 (does not count as first hdc) 8 hdc into loop.
Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (16 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next st, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st] 7 times, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (24 hdc)
Round 4: With color B, ch 1 (does not count as first st), sc in first st, [2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts] 7 times, sc in next st, sl st to top of first sc to join. (32 sc)
Round 5: With color A, ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts] 7 times, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (40 hdc)
Round 6: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), hdc in first st, hdc in next st, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts] 7 times, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (48 hdc)
Round 7: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 5 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 5 sts] 7 times, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (56 hdc)
Round 8: With color B, ch 1 (does not count as first sc), sc in first st, sc in each of next 2 sts, [2s in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts] 7 times, sc in each of next 3 sts, sl st to top of first sc to join. (64 sc)
Round 9: With color A, ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 7 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 7 sts] 7 times, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (72 hdc)
Round 10: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 8 sts] 7 times, hdc in each of next 4 sts, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (80 hdc)
Round 11: Ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 9 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 9 sts] 7 times, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (88 hdc) *the hat top should measure 7” across at this point.
Round 12: With color B, ch 1 (does not count as first sc), sc in first st and each st around, sl st to top of first sc to join. (88 sc)
Round 13~15: With color A, ch 1 (does not count as first hdc), hdc in first st and each st around, sl st to top of first hdc to join. (88 hdc)
Repeat rounds 12 ~ 15: 1 more time
Clip yarn
Hat Band/Wrap
Row 1: With color B, Count around 60 sts from where the last round ended and rejoin color B, ch 1 (does not count as first sc), sc in same st and each st around, do not join. (88 sc)
Row 2: Ch 16, turn, sc in second chain from hook and in each remaining ch, sc in the back loop only of each sc around, do not join. (103 sc)
Row 3: With color A, turn, do not chain, sc in each of next 89 sts, hdc in next 7 sts, dc in last 7 sts. (103 sts)
Row 4: Ch 5 (counts as ch 2, dc), turn, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next ch, dc in each of the next 4 sts, hdc in each of the next 7 sts, sc to end. (106 sts)
Row 5: Turn, do not chain, sc in each of next 92 sts, hdc in next 7 sts, dc in last 7 sts. (106 sts)
Row 6: Ch 5 (counts as ch 2, dc), turn, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next ch, dc in each of the next 4 sts, hdc in each of the next 7 sts, sc to end. (109 sts)
Row 7: Turn, do not chain, sc in each st across. (109 sts)
Clip yarn, leaving a long tail. Fold up band extension and sew in place with tail. Weave in all ends.
