Stitchopedia Video & Photo Tutorial
The slip knot is the first skill you need to start knitting or crocheting. It also comes in handy in plenty of other areas.
With this tutorial you will learn to make a slip knot in no time at all. I’ve made a short video to show how to make a slip knot, and I’ve also written out instructions and included photos to help. If you want to learn to make a slip knot using a crochet hook, you can find a tutorial for that HERE.
If you can’t see this video, try watching it on YouTube HERE.
You can also watch a short version on Tangi HERE.
Written instructions with photos
To begin, take the yarn up under your bottom 3 fingers and hold onto it, leaving your thumb and pointer finger free.
Wrap the tail (cut end) of the yarn around the outside of your pointer finger and thumb, and cross it over the yarn in your bottom 3 fingers.
With your other hand, grab the yarn in your bottom 3 fingers, pull it up over the tail end of the yarn, and pinch it between your free thumb and pointer finger.
Drop the loop that’s around your thumb and pointer finger off those fingers.
Pull the tail of the yarn, and the other side of the yarn that’s still attached to the yarn ball (the “live” end) to tighten up the knot.
Pull the live end of the yarn to make the loop smaller and tighten it around a knitting needle, crochet hook, or whatever else you may need.
Here are some supplies you may find useful as you continue on your yarnie journeys.
Happy stitching my friends.
