Stitchopedia Tutorial

The Sticks and Fans stitch is a classic crochet stitch pattern that is slightly lacey, has some texture, and is very appealing.

There seems to be several different names for this stitch pattern, as it never really ended up with an “official” name from what I’ve learned. So if you see it being used with another name, don’t be surprised! I used the Sticks and Fans crochet stitch pattern for Section 2 of the Suzie’s Stiped Sampler Blanket CAL, where I changed colors every row. I also love using variegated yarn for this stitch pattern.

Sticks and Fans Stitch Pattern Written Instructions with Photos

The sticks and fans stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of 6 plus 1 stitches. For the video and chart in this tutorial I started with a base of 19 single crochet. The stitch pattern begins with row 2. I’ve also included a finishing row to end your swatch with a row of single crochet. The first and last rows of single crochet are simply to neaten up the top and bottom of your swatch if you want to keep it for future reference. I like to staple mine to an index card with the name of the pattern on it.
