Front post and back post stitches give a great texture to your work. They may seem intimidating at first, but they are actually not that difficult to make! In this Stitchopedia entry you will learn to make post stitches with a video, written instructions, photos, and a sample practice piece. At the end of this post you will find a few patterns which use post stitches so you can try out your new skill.

Members of Showstopper Creations will find the ad-free version of this article HERE.

front post double crochet (fpdc): yo, insert hook from front to back, and the from back to front again around the post of the stitch you are working into, pushing that stitch to the front, yo, pull through (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through last 2 loops.

Make all other front post stitches (such as fp half double crochet, fp single crochet) in the same manner. Just make the st as you normally would, only instead of working into the top of the st, work around the post of the stitch, pulling the post to the front.

back post double crochet (bpdc): yo, insert hook from back to front, and the from front to back again around the post of the stitch you are working into, pushing that stitch to the back, yo, pull through (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through last 2 loops.

Make all other back post stitches (such as bp half double crochet, bp single crochet) in the same manner. Just make the st as you normally would, only instead of working into the top of the st, work around the post of the stitch, pushing the post to the back.
