Owl Cable: Crochet Cable Tutorial

Okay, I am having way to much fun here and just smiling like crazy! This guy is just such a fun pattern. Here’s how to do it with a video included. Crochet and smiles, it doesn’t get any better!


Learn to make the Crocheted Owl Cable.
This video will show you how:

Written instructions:
Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)

Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 16, dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped chs count as dc) and each remaining ch. – {14 dc}
Row 2: Turn, ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), hdc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, dc in 2 skipped sts working behind previous 2 sts, skip 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, dc in 2 skipped sts working in front of previous 2 sts, hdc in last 3 sts.
Row 3: Turn, ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts, bpdc around next 8 sts, hdc in last 3 sts.
Row 4: Turn, ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts, fpdc around next 8 sts, hdc in last 3 sts.
Row 5: Repeat row 3.
Row 6: Turn, ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, fpdc around next 2 sts, fpdc around 2 skipped sts working behind previous 2 sts, skip 2 sts, fpdc around next 2 sts, fpdc around 2 skipped sts working in front of previous 2 sts, hdc in last 3 sts.
Row 7: Repeat row 3.
Row 8: Repeat row 6.
Row 9: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc to end.

    • You need to fpdc in the SKIPPED stitches, you can’t do post sts in slipped stitches. Is that the problem or was that a typo? If it was a typo then I don’t know what the problem is, you skip 2 sts, then fpdc around the next 2 sts, then you hold the 2 sts you just made behind your hook (so the hook is between the sts and you) and fpdc in the 2 sts you skipped.
      So, if you were to number those 4 sts they would be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, and you would stitch into them in the following order: 3, 4, 1, 2.
