Learn to make a single crochet with this video, written instructions, and photos. You will learn how to make the single crochet in your starting chain (learn the chain here), how to turn to start a new row, and how to make a single crochet into the previous row. This is a great resource for crochet beginners!
In the samples seen in this video and post, I used Red Heart With Love yarn.
Written instructions with photos
ch ~ chain
sc ~ single crochet
st(s) ~ stitch(es)
yo ~ yarn over
To make a sc:
Insert hook into st, yo, pull through the st only (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through both loops. Single crochet made.
Here are a series of photos showing how to make the sc in your starting chain:
And here is a photo collage showing the sc made after a turning chain. For more instructions, watch the video at the top of this post.
Here is a sample of a sc chart as well: (sc does have another symbol sometimes used on charts, instead of this “+”, some charts use this “x”.
The chart shows the following pattern:
Row 1: Ch 11, sc in second ch from hook and each remaining ch across. (10 sc)
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across. (10 sc)
Repeat row 2
