Well, the crazy holiday season is officially underway, and we have survived the first holiday. It was actually a great day. Halloween is Vada’s favorite holiday. She wears Halloween themed clothing year round.
The girls had a half day at school, then they went back at 2 for the optional costume parade. Doug’s mom came by just before they got out for the half day, so she picked them up with me, helped to get them in their costumes, and went to the parade with us. It was very nice to have her along.
Here are the girls as we left to go to the costume parade. Vada is Merida from Brave, and Kyla is Elsa from Frozen.
This little girl is a friend of theirs who is in first grade (yes, she is younger than them). She had on my favorite costume of the day!
Look!! It’s Elsa!
The start of the parade. The little blue girl in the middle is one of the patrols for the second grade. Patrols are sixth graders who help out with the younger grades. She always gets to school early and helps out with the second graders as they line up and wait to go in. She is a trip, so goofy and so sweet!
Fuzzy Merida walking by.
**I would like to take a moment to thank Nan Zabriski for teaching me how to anchor a wig on just about any head. I put that thing on her at 1pm, and it did not budge until she asked me to take it off at 6pm. Plus, she never complained that it itched or hurt. Thank you, Nan.
Fuzzy Elsa running by. In case you were wondering, I counted 22 Elsas, all in the 3rd grade or below. Kyla’s class alone had 4.
This is Jonathan. He is a great little boy! His mother, grandmother, and great~grandfather are all incredibly nice as well. Kindness runs in that family.
After school, we had a little time at home, then Doug took the girls out to Trick or Treat. I stayed home to give out candy. I really enjoy giving out candy. I love seeing how much fun all the kids are having. Plus, I may purposefully buy way too much candy so I can tell them to take a big handful because I love the happy little looks I get. I also make sure to be clearly “open” into the evening, so the bigger kids can stop by as well. My last group came by at 9:30. I was very happy that all the teenagers were in costume, and said thank you. They were having a great time! I love teenage Trick or Treaters. It’s nice to see them still being kids.
While Doug and the girls were out, they ran into some Monsters on the main street.
The house next to the Deli on the corner was giving out kid’s choice of a popcorn ball, or a little box of candy. Vada went for the candy, and Kyla went for the popcorn ball.
This is Kyla’s loot. Just Kyla’s loot. Vada had just as much. They could have easily gotten more, but their little legs were tired, and their bags were starting to overflow. Bigger bags next year. And some warm ups.

Brilliant! I had an Elsa too. I LOVE the simplicity of braiding yarn right into her hair! I tried to do the full wig, weaving hair over a single crochet hat – but by the time I added all that extra yarn the hat would barely stay on her head. Happy Halloween!
Thanks, Laurinda. The hair was a last minute thing. Her hair always comes out of a braid and flops in her eyes, so this was my version of a headband!
It looks like a fun time was had by all.
Yup!!
