Mireda-and-Elsa-Ready-To-Go

Trick or Treat!! 2014

Well, the crazy holiday season is officially underway, and we have survived the first holiday. It was actually a great day. Halloween is Vada’s favorite holiday. She wears Halloween themed clothing year round.

The girls had a half day at school, then they went back at 2 for the optional costume parade. Doug’s mom came by just before they got out for the half day, so she picked them up with me, helped to get them in their costumes, and went to the parade with us. It was very nice to have her along.

Here are the girls as we left to go to the costume parade. Vada is Merida from Brave, and Kyla is Elsa from Frozen.

This little girl is a friend of theirs who is in first grade (yes, she is younger than them). She had on my favorite costume of the day!

Strep!!

Back around my junior year of high school, I had spent about 8 weeks sick. Not the same sick. One thing would go, and I would catch another. I was usually sick a lot in the winters, but this was just plain crazy!! I don’t remember how many doctor visits there were, I really wasn’t extremely sick, it was just a bunch of colds and such, but I stayed sick for so long, it became a doctor issue. After lots of questions and tests, the diagnosis went something like this:

A person’s immune system fully develops by the time they are 8. I lived in Southern California until I was 8. My immune system developed in the absence of cold weather. So, it breaks down when the weather gets cold. You may know that the old wives tale of “bundle up in the cold or you will get sick” isn’t entirely true. The cold doesn’t make you sick, but it does make it harder for your immune system to work, making it easier for you to get sick. So, in my case, when the weather turns cold, my immune system is pretty shotty. The doctor told us we had 2 options. 1) Move somewhere where it doesn’t get cold. 2) Take a lot of Vitamin C when the weather turns and learn to deal with being sick a lot. We went with 2.

Happy Day

I had a very nice, happy day today! I will share with you in a moment, but first I want to share a few snaps I took yesterday. When I was at Rhinebeck on Sunday, Doug and the girls decorated the house for Halloween.

I won!!

OK, it is pretty clear I did not win the community choice vote for the Stevie Nicks shawl contest. First and second place both doubled my votes, but third isn’t bad. However, the title of this post is not a lie. You see, I won something even better then $500 (though that sure would have been nice after having to buy a new washer last week). When the contest was announced, I had quite a few people bring it to … Read more

Happy, pretty mail!

Last week I received a surprise in the mail from Lion Brand Yarn. Normally I do not like surprises, but when it comes to yarn companies, I am all for them!! When the package arrived, I giggled in anticipation, then impatiently ripped it open to find this: Ohhh! So pretty. And soft. And cuddly. I giggled some more. These are new members of the LB Collection family. I am a big fan of the LB collection. I actually have several … Read more

13

*trigger warning: about 9/11, language 13 years. It still feels like yesterday, and it feels like a lifetime ago. In my cleaning, I unearthed my journal I started in 2002. There was an entry on March 18th that I am going to share with you. I took a photo of some of the pages, but it is hard to read, so I am just going to type it all out for you. Things to know about who I was at … Read more

World Wide Artist Blog Hop

Last week, Kim Guzman invited me to join in on the World Wide Artist Blog Hop. I “met” Kim on line through a Crochet Bloggers and Designers Facebook group we are both in. She and I became fast friends, and we finally got to meet in person at the Knit and Crochet show this past July. Kim has become a dear friend, and someone I often look to for advice on not only crochet/design questions, but also on how to … Read more

Happy Birthday Grammy!!

Today is my Grammy’s Birthday. She and my Grampy have 11 children, my mother being the oldest. They are all wonderful. I feel so blessed to be part of this crazy, loving, giant, loving, fabulous, and loving family. One of Grammy’s amazing daughters, my Aunt Jeannie, wrote this little tribute to her on Facebook today, and I just had to share it with you. *With Jeannie’s permission, of course. Lessons learned while doing life with my Mom I’m 4 years … Read more
