Gertie is a sweet easy shawl crochet pattern with a mesh stitch diamond in the center, and double crochet triangles on the sides.
This pretty shawl free crochet pattern finishes with a border of mesh stitches, then a small scalloped edging. You can easily change the size of this beginner crochet wrap or shawl as explained in the pattern notes. Keep in mind that as a result of any size change, the amount of yarn used will change as well. This means Gertie can fit nearly any size preference.
The Gertie free crochet shawl pattern is easy enough for beginners but still pretty and interesting enough for even advanced crocheters. Using double crochet stitches, as well as other simple stitches, Gertie is the perfect project for someone looking for a quick and easy crochet triangle shawl.
If you’re collecting easy crochet patterns for a prayer shawl group or some other reason, then try out this free pattern. The sample is made in 2 colors, but you can make it with more or different colors. Maybe give it a go in stripes. You can even wear Gertie as a scarf in the winter. There are just so many options with this easy crochet shawl pattern.

- Read through all instructions before beginning.
- The stitch count is at the end of each Row after the period, usually only if the count has changed from the previous Row. {count here}
- Chs and sl sts are not included in Row counts unless specified.
- Repeating Row 4 less times will result in a smaller shawl, likewise, repeating Row 4 more times will result in a larger shawl. Please keep in mind this will change the amount of yarn used, and will also change the stitch counts from that point forward.
