Can’t sleep

So let me tell you a story. A while back there was this incredibly talented woman named Vada. She was an artist of every sort. Her main creations were jewelry, but she was amazing at everything. In her youth she even danced with Martha Graham. She was quite beautiful, too. She met a wonderful man named Alexander, and they married. They had a son, Christopher, but when his son was only 2 weeks old, Alex was killed by a drunk driver. Eventually, Vada married again, and had two more sons. She had always wanted a little girl, but it wasn’t in the cards for her. Unfortunately, this marriage did not last. Even worse, her youngest son was also killed by a drunk driver when he was just a teenager. Through all of this Vada keep creating her art. I imagine it is what kept her going. Eventually her sons grew up and moved away.

Madison’s Birthday Party!

My sister-in-law’s little girl just turned one. There was a birthday party for her on the 14th at my mother-in-law’s house. There were quite a few people Doug and I didn’t know – we are guessing they were Madison’s father’s family. No one introduced anyone, so I still don’t even know their names. It always seems odd to me that my husband’s family never bothers to introduce people. Anyway, there were some new toys at Nana’s house to play with.

Kyla-with-the-cat

Kyla fell in love with this toy cat that moved and purred. I thought it was a bit freaky, but Kyla was happy!

Sunday in the park with…well, not George.

OK, first I must apologize for my absentness of late. I’ve just been a bit off kilter lately. I am way behind on reading the blogs that I love, and have been a little neglectful of my blog, too. I *hope* I’m back now!

So, Sunday. Doug had seen some signs that there was to be a flea market/craft show in the park. We put the girls in the stroller and walked up the block to the park entrance.

We walked through the park and over one of the many cute little bridges.

Quilt update, random bits, and a very late bookshelf reveal.

Craft-Hope-Quilt-Close-Up

I thought you might like to see my progress on my Craft Hope quilt. As you can see, I got a little crazy and decided to hand quilt it. It is not as far along as the picture would lead you to believe, I just folded it so the done part was on top. It may be the end of next week, not this week, when it goes out. The due date is Nov. 14th, so I will still be plenty early. Here’s a few more snaps.

Gift-For-Beth

A very enjoyable weekend

Gift-For-Beth

Back in March I went to my friend Beth’s wedding shower and presented her with the presents seen above. They were both from her registry, a large self-watering planter, and a book “Sewing for Dummies”. Inside the book was a note saying she would also receive a day of sewing lessons from me. This is a decent gift, as I used to run a university costume department and teach sewing and pattern making.

It took a while to come up with a time we were both able to spend the day together. This Saturday was it. I drove to her place in Pennsylvania, a bit of a drive, but worth it! I stopped at the craft store on the way and picked up a cute little apron kit and some pre-cut strips and squares to make a quilt for craft hope, I’ll write more about that in a bit.

John Lennon!!! The exhibit was in Montclair. I love going to Montclair, it’s a great city, with awesome art and stores. So it was not surprising that they ended up with the exhibit. It’s only up for the weekend.

IVF and my experience

I’ve been meaning to write about my IVF experience for quite some time now, both for myself and for others who may want to know because they are or will be going through it. Please remember I am not a doctor, and I may be remembering things wrong or may have misunderstood some things that were explained to me. I will do my best to keep the medical “facts” correct, but I may just be wrong in some cases. OK, disclaimer done.
When my husband and I decided we may have a fertility problem I started asking around about fertility doctors and doing my research. We were so blessed! One of the best in the country, maybe even the world, was just 20 minutes away from us. People were flying in from other counties and we just had a short drive over. Even better – she took our insurance!
