Stitchopedia Tutorial
Full of wonderful texture, the crochet waffle stitch is an impressive addition to your crochet stitch pattern repertoire.
Yarn used in this tutorial was provided by WeCrochet. All opinions are my own.
Front post stitches create the dimensional aspect of this stitch pattern. Use multiple colors, one solid color, or even a color changing yarn to change the look. This 2 row repeat pattern is great for blankets and cozy wraps. What will you make with the crochet waffle stitch?
For this tutorial I’ve changed color every row. When I used this stitch in Section 12 of the Suzie’s Stiped Sampler Blanket CAL, I used several rows of a color at a time.

Waffle Stitch Written Instructions with Photos
The Waffle Stitch is worked over a multiple of 3 plus 1 stitches. For the video and chart in this tutorial I started with a base of 25 single crochet. The stitch pattern begins with row 2. I’ve also included a finishing row to end your swatch with a row of single crochet. The first and last rows of single crochet are simply to neaten up the top and bottom of your swatch if you want to keep it for future reference. I like to staple mine to an index card with the name of the pattern on it.
Row 1 (RS): FSC a multiple of 3+1.
-or-
Ch a multiple of 3+2, turn, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2 (WS): Turn, dch2 in first st, dc in each st across.
Row 3: Turn, dch2 in first st, [fpdc around next st, dc in each of next 2 sts] across to end.
Row 4: Turn, dch2 in first st, fpdc around next st, [dc in next st, fpdc around each of next 2 sts] across until 2 sts remain, dc in each of last 2 sts.
Repeat Rows 3-4 to desired size.
Finishing Row: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st and in each st across.
