Stitchopedia Video & Photo Tutorial
The single cast on is a great first cast on to learn. It’s easy to do and will get you knitting fast. This is my favorite learn-to-knit cast on.
Be sure to keep the stitches close together so there are no loops hanging between the stitches. The single cast on was the only cast on I knew for many years and it appeared on many-a-gifts.

Written instructions with photos
First place a slip knot on one needle. Hold the yarn with the bottom 3 fingers of your non-dominate hand. Hold the needle in your dominate hand.
Wrap the yarn around the thumb of your non-dominant hand.
Insert the needle up through the loop on your thumb.
Slid your thumb out of the loop, leaving it on the needle, then tighten the loop around the needle.
Repeat this process: wrap the yarn around your thumb.
Insert the needle up through the loop on your thumb.
Slid your thumb out of the loop then tighten the loop on the needle.
Keep going until you have as many stitches as you need. Be sure to tighten each loop so there is not a space between the stitches. Don’t pull them super tight or the first row will be hard to knit, just tight enough so there isn’t a space between the stitches.
Now it’s time to knit!
Here are some supplies you may find useful.
Happy stitching my friends.
