The purl stitch is essentially a reversed knit stitch, so the front of a purl looks like the back of a knit, and visa versa. As with the knit stitch, it’s not hard to learn when it’s broken down into parts.
The knit stitch is the first stitch you need to learn after casting on, and it’s pretty easy when you break it down into its parts.
Use the cable cast on for a strong, stretchy edge making it perfect for top-down socks and other rib stitches. Try using a thicker yarn to make a decorative edging.
The knit cast on is soft and slightly loose cast on which produces an edge resembling a cord. Use it when knitting lace or other patterns where you don’t want a heavy cast on.
The single cast on is a great first cast on to learn. It’s easy to do and will get you knitting fast. This is my favorite learn-to-knit cast on.

In our second installation of Adventures in Yarn Dying with Jessie At Home, we’re learning about dyeing yarn with acid dyes and protein fibers. In addition, I also experimented with hombre dyeing and dyeing with food coloring. I had a few fails and a lot of awesomeness!
